    Have you registered?

    The next Fifty/Fifty seminar will be held on December 1 at 10am. Clémence Perronnet will speak about inequalities between girls and boys in science. The speaker will be in Vannes, and the talk broadcasted in the Métivier room (Rennes) and TPI ENSSAT (Lannion).

    The new edition of the mentoring program is open! Over a 12-month period, interact with a mentor on topics of your choice. Register by December 3 for scientific and technical staff and for administrative staff. It is also possible to register as a mentor.

    Ongoing activities

    Scientific mediation

    • Six PhD students are currently participating in the “L codent, L créent” action. Between October and December, they will teach creative programming in Python to thirty middle school girls at the Landry and Gayeulles middle schools. More info (in French).
    • On November 10, about fifty teachers participated in the first session of “J’peux pas j’ai informatique” which was entirely dedicated to them. They learnt about the diversity of roles for professionals in digital science and how to deconstruct stereotypes. All the content presented is available online and will be reused with their classes. More info (in French) .

    Awareness in the lab

    • Feminist books for scientists at the IRISA/Inria Rennes cafet’. About twenty books are available in the cafet’. Choose a book and read it on site or take it home for a few days. More info
    • 160 people took part in the quiz on communication at work. Thank you! The quiz is still available online (in French).
    • Eight young scientists in Rennes and Lannion are currently running the 4th edition of the reading circle on the theme of gender equality in science and digital technology. They read “Numérique, compter avec les femmes” by Anne-Marie Kermarrec and meet every week by visioconference. More info

    Inclusive workspace

    • There are still places available for the harassment awareness training. As a reminder, this training – open to IRISA/Inria RBA permanent staff – will be mandatory for anyone taking on responsibilities (including thesis supervision) at IRISA as of the beginning of the 2022 academic year (see Elisa Fromont’s email of November 14 for the registration links).

    • Join a group of a dozen young scientists for the 5th edition of the Reading Circle on the theme of gender equality in science and digital technology. The group has chosen to read “Brotopia: Breaking Up the Boy’s Club of Silicon Valley” by Emily Chang and meets weekly on video to discuss it. Read more.     Ongoing activities

    Scientific mediation

    • Six doctoral students participated in the “L codent, L créent” action. Between October and December, they taught creative programming in Python to about thirty middle school girls from the Landry and Gayeulles middle schools in Rennes. The video of the artwork produced is online.

    Awareness in the lab

    • A nomadic library of feminist books for scientists. Twenty books are available on the sites of Vannes (contact: Jamal El Hachem) and Rennes (cafet Inria / IRISA). To read on site or to take away for a few days. Learn more.

    Inclusive workspace

    • Did you know that the Rennes site has a lactation room? Find all the information on the new page “Breastfeeding room” on the IRISA intranet.
    • [French only] There are still places available for the next awareness training on moral and sexual harassment. Don’t forget that this training will be mandatory (for IRISA) from September onwards in order to be able to supervise theses or take on responsibilities within the laboratory (there will be blocking, if necessary, at the personnel committee).

    • The next scientific women-only meeting will take place on March 8th in room Petri-Turing from 12:30 to 2pm. Come for a chat!
    • After Anne-Marie Kermarrec’s talk on March 31st, the next Fifty/Fifty seminar is already planned: we will listen to Jeria Quesenberry (CMU) on May 24th at 3pm. Save the date!

    Training and Careers

    • A new year of mentoring has begun for fifteen colleagues in the lab. Thanks to the fifteen mentors who are accompanying them by sharing their experience. More information
